I'm trying to avoid having a blog that looks like my myspace from high school. So please bear with my lack of creativity as I try different layouts out. I'm not planning on this being quite as girly as my layout suggests.I know it's annoying. But I still haven't gotten it right. I promise to leave it be once I do. I'm still having a difficult time with the whole title thing. I don't know why such a little thing is so difficult.
I know this isn't the most interesting topic, but it's like the most annoying thing in the world for me. When I tell people I'm an economics major I tend to get two different responses.
Response One "Why are you majoring in economics? You'll never be able to get a job with that." This is such a ridiculous question and it drives me crazy. I tend to get asked this by older adults who's children are art or history majors. With an econ degree you can do so many things in the realms of business, political science, civil service, finance, law, and insurance. It opens so many more doors than most people think. I should probably just start telling them to google it, because these people also think I'm never going to make any money.
Response Two: "So you can help me with the stock market right?" Even though econ can help you understand things in finance like the stock market that's not the primary focus. And you'd be much better off asking a finance major to help you than me.
Economics has it's place in business and politics. But it is primarily a social science. In econ you learn problem solving as well as economic principles. That's what makes it so interesting. Trust me I realize that I'm a minority in my love for econ. And I kind of prefer it that way. The fewer econ majors out there, the more money I can make. It's supply and demand.
I couldn't agree with this quote by Lyndon B. Johnson more, "Did you ever think that making a speech on economics is a lot like pissing down your leg? It seems hot to you, but it never does to anyone else." I know the feeling all too well.
Oh, Lyndon B! Such a character . . .
