I'm sorry if I sound rather prudish:
I'm not trying to give away the details on the new breast cancer awareness campaign on Facebook, but I personally don't think that giving people the impression that I'm prego is going to help raise breast cancer awareness. I mean does "I'm 5 weeks and craving pickles" scream breast cancer to you? It doesn't to me. Before it has been "post the color of your bra" or "where you like to have your handbag handy" as a status. Why do we have to turn something as serious as breast cancer into a sexual ploy on Facebook?
Other than skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common among women. 2.4 million women living in the U.S. have been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. And yet somehow we think making people think we're pregnant or that we like it on the table is going to raise breast cancer awareness. I'm not buying it. Don't get me wrong, I fully support breast cancer awareness. Or any kind of awareness. But there's got to be a better way than making people think I'm craving pickles to make them aware of something that takes lives every year.
Is there a reason that it's only women's health falling into this sexual game?
If you really want raise awareness encourage your mothers, sisters, and friends to get screened.
